PROVINCIAL PARKS RESERVATION SERVICE OPENS FOR BUSINESS APRIL 7

Manitoba’s Parks Reservation Service will open for campsite reservations April 7 at 7:30 a.m. to connect campers to Manitoba’s outdoors, Conservation Minister Stan Struthers said today.

“Our provincial parks are highly valued by Manitobans and the Parks Reservation Service helps families make plans for vacations and weekend getaways,” said Struthers. “This service continues to grow in popularity.  A number of changes have been made since last season to improve customers’ experiences when making reservations and when they arrive at campgrounds.”

Improvements to the service include:
·         computer system upgrades to improve opening day access to reservations;
·         expansion of seven-night-stay sites to more campgrounds to accommodate longer stay requests by campers;
·         computer automation of several more campgrounds to improve access to reservation information and the management of campsites, and provide the ability to make in-person reservations;
·         provision of pictures of campsites and campgrounds online; and
·         introduction of scanner technology for campground offices to speed up the check-in process.

“The opening day for campsite reservations is the busiest day of the year with thousands of reservations being made,” said Struthers. “We encourage system users to make sure that they are prepared by registering and or confirming their user names, passwords and e-mail addresses.”

Registration or confirmation of previously-registered information can be completed online at www.manitobaparks.com prior to April 7. Advance registration will ensure that customers can create their reservations quickly and receive their reservation confirmations.

If a camper has forgotten a password or needs assistance, the provincial call centre can be contacted at 1-888-482-2267 (toll-free) or in Winnipeg at 948-3333. Reservations will again be limited to three per call, online session or in-person booking during the initial busy period.

In 2007, over 50,000 reservations were made for provincial campsite, cabin, yurt and group-use facilities.  This represents a 36 per cent increase over 2005 when 36,771 reservations were booked.

Additional information about Manitoba’s tourism opportunities will also be available in this year’s Travel Manitoba guides which will be available soon.
