March 27, 2009 ROBINSON SUPPORTS MANITOBA JUNO NOMINEES IN VANCOUVER– – –Minister Signs Agreement with Four Host First Nations Of 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sport Minister Eric Robinson said today he looks forward to attending the Juno Awards and congratulating the Manitoba artists who were nominated this year. While in Vancouver the minister will also sign a government co-operation agreement with the four host First Nations for activities leading up to and during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“I’m pleased to cheer on the very strong showing of 10 superb artists from Manitoba who were nominated for Junos this year,” Robinson said. “It will also be an honour to sign a historic agreement with the four host First Nations of the Vancouver Olympics that will mean a high level of co-operation with our government and unprecedented participation and involvement in the games by Canada’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit people.”
Robinson and the Four Host First Nations Society representing Lil’wat, Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations agreed to support and respect each other and work together to develop opportunities and legacies for First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, particularly youth, related to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
“On Sunday, our province’s fine musical artists will be winning awards in General Motors Place in Vancouver, where a year from now Manitoba athletes will be on the podium,” Robinson added. “We are blessed to have so many highly talented people in our province.”
