AMENDMENTS TO ADDICTIONS FOUNDATION ACT WOULD ENSURE ENHANCED CO-ORDINATION WITH REGIONS: IRVIN-ROSS

Changes to the Addictions Foundation Act would allow more effective co‑ordination of services with the regional health authorities (RHAs) and ensure legislative consistency with RHAs and other health‑care organizations, Healthy Living Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross said today after introducing the amendments in the legislature.

“The role of the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba and the services it provides have changed over time,” said Irvin-Ross.  “These changes will help the organization better connect with the regional health authorities while ensuring the legislation is consistent with that of the authorities and CancerCare Manitoba.”

The proposed amendments would:
·         clarify the foundation is able to enter into agreements with the regional health authorities about the co-ordination and delivery of services;
·         ensure the foundation provides an annual health plan for approval and manages and allocates its resources according to the plan and any directions from government; and
·         allow a person to serve as a board member for two consecutive terms (a maximum of six consecutive years).

The Addictions Foundation of Manitoba has been consulted and supports the proposed amendments, said Irvin-Ross.
