September 17, 2009 PROVINCE APPOINTS MEDIATOR IN TEMBEC LABOUR DISPUTEMediator Michael Werier has been appointed to address the labour dispute between the Tembec Paper Group Pine Falls operation and United Steelworkers Local 3-1375, Labour and Immigration Minister Nancy Allan announced today.
“We are very pleased to facilitate a process to bring both parties back to the table to try to resolve this matter,” said Allan. “Mr. Werier has significant experience in resolving labour disputes and we believe he can help resolve this matter and put an end to the work disruption.”
The minister has asked for a report of the results of the mediation together with recommendations for the settlement of the dispute as soon as possible, but no later than Oct. 16.
Approximately 270 employees at Tembec have been off the job since Aug. 31.
