PROVINCE ANNOUNCES MEL HOLLEY APPOINTED ACTING OMBUDSMAN
– – – Outgoing Ombudsman Irene Hamilton to Lead New Justice Innovation Branch: Swan
Irene Hamilton has accepted a newly created position in Manitoba Justice as director of justice innovation, Justice Minister Andrew Swan announced today, adding the new branch will lead efforts to streamline processes within the justice system while ensuring it remains fair and effective.
Hamilton leaves her appointment as ombudsman after almost seven years in the position and prior to that, served as an assistant deputy minister in Manitoba Justice.
Mel Holley has been appointed as acting ombudsman, Swan said. Holley is currently the manager of ombudsman investigations.
An all-party committee of the Manitoba legislative assembly will be convened to recommend a new permanent ombudsman, the minister said.
“Ms. Hamilton has served Manitobans very well in her independent role as ombudsman,” said Swan. “I’m confident she will bring experience and a fresh perspective to her new role that will help improve the justice system.”
