PROVINCE HONOURS SMALL BUSINESS WITH NEW CENTURY BUSINESS RECOGNITION AWARD
– – – Award Recognizes 100 Years of Dedication to Community, Business Excellence: Bjornson
In recognition of Small Business Week, Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade Minister Peter Bjornson today announced H.P. Tergesen & Sons and Wawanesa Insurance as the first recipients ofthe newly created Century Business Recognition Award for operating in Manitoba for more than 100 years.
“The businesses we’re recognizing today are Manitoba success stories that are recognized for their ability to thrive while offering good services to Manitoba families,” said Bjornson. “Businesses like these are vital to our economy and building strong communities. They’re excellent role models.”
The province created the award to recognize and celebrate the long-term economic contributions of Manitoba’s dedicated entrepreneurs and business owners, the minister said.
“Our company’s longevity is a direct result of providing a service that is second to none to our customers,” said Stefan Tergesen, manager, H.P. Tergesen & Sons. “On behalf of H.P. Tergesen’s, we are honoured to receive this recognition.”
“Our success has been the result of our rural roots and values, our mutual philosophy and the hard work and dedication of our employees, both past and present,” said Ken McCrea, president and chief executive officer, Wawanesa Insurance. “We are truly honoured to accept this award in recognition of Wawanesa Mutual Insurance being in business in Manitoba for more than 100 years.”
A Brandon company will be honoured with a Century Award at the Brandon Chamber of Commerce Small Business Week kickoff luncheon on Monday.
To be eligible for the Manitoba Century Business Recognition Award, a business must have a registered office in Manitoba and have operated in the province for a minimum of 100 years. Applications can be prepared and submitted by company employees, officers or owners and must include proof of the date established.
