As Canadians, we enjoy freedoms, opportunities and a diversity that is unmatched throughout the world.
Canada Day is a time to celebrate our shared values and appreciate our distinctive qualities that make our country one of the most welcoming in the world. Friendly Manitoba is a place where people from around the world can come and feel at home.
2012 is a year of historic milestones in Manitoba and Canada. This year, we mark the bicentennial anniversary of the War of 1812, a defining moment that helped to establish Canada as a nation. Here in Manitoba, we are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the Red River Settlement, which would become Winnipeg. It is also the centennial year of the Town of The Pas.
Like all the provinces, Manitoba was built on immigration and the belief that we all belong. Whether we were born here, moved here recently or are celebrating our first Canada Day at The Forks, we are all proud to be Canadian.
On behalf of all Manitobans and the Government of Manitoba, I wish all of you a happy Canada Day!
