Plant Upgrades Increase Capacity and Improve Water Quality for St-Lazare Families
– – –Canada and Manitoba Work Together to Deliver Results for Residents of St-Lazare
Village of St-Lazare, Manitoba— The community of St-Lazare celebrated today the completion of upgrades to the Village of St-Lazare water treatment plant.
These important and valuable upgrades will help accommodate the growing community’s water needs, and provide a backup source of potable water for surrounding rural residents and meet provincial water treatment regulations.
“What matters to Manitoba families is having access to safe, clean, reliable water. The Province of Manitoba is pleased to have contributed to this important project. Water is a necessity for all and we are proud to have helped this strong and vibrant community provide safe, clean water for the families of St-Lazare,” said Ron Lemieux, Manitoba Minister for Local Government. “Projects like this demonstrate the commitment by the Province of Manitoba to promote economic growth in our rural areas by investing in important infrastructure like the upgrades to the St-Lazare water-treatment facility. Improvements to water treatment capabilities support and encourage residential stability and attract business development, which helps create more economic benefits for rural communities.”
“Canada’s Economic Action Plan continues to deliver results across the country and I’m delighted our investments are paying off here in St-Lazare,” said Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament for Dauphin—Swan River—Marquette, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. “Not only will this project help the plant meet future demands, but residents will have access to clean, safe drinking water for years to come.”
“The installation of this new water treatment facility will provide our community with potable water meeting all the required standards well into the future and aid our Village to move forward,” said Mayor Martin Dupont. “We would like to thank both the Federal and Provincial governments for participating with our community in bringing this project to fruition.”
The governments of Canada and Manitoba each committed $262,319 to this project under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund. The Village of St-Lazare contributed the remainder of the $786,958 eligible project costs.
As part of the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund supported more than 4,100 infrastructure projects across the country. Together, the federal government and Province of Manitoba committed close to $280 million to 111 projects under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund across Manitoba.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2012 focuses on creating new opportunities for jobs and growth, and securing long-term prosperity for Canadians. Investing in public infrastructure is an important part of this strategy. Over the course of the summer and fall, the Government of Canada will be engaging provinces, territories and other stakeholders to develop a long-term infrastructure plan.
