Manitoba Announces Humanitarian Assistance for Victims of Violence in Ukraine

Manitoba will provide $25,000 for immediate humanitarian assistance in Ukraine, to be used for urgently needed first aid and medical supplies, Premier Greg Selinger announced today.

This afternoon, Premier Selinger will attend a memorial service for victims of violence in Ukraine, organized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Manitoba Provincial Council.  He will be joined by several members of the Manitoba cabinet.

“Manitobans stand in solidarity with our friends in Ukraine against the violence of this past week,” said the premier.  “We want the institutions of democracy and human rights to be respected in Ukraine and around the world.”

Premier Selinger commended the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Manitoba Provincial Council for its continuing work over recent weeks to bring together Manitobans to express strong concern over the situation unfolding in Ukraine.  The province will continue to work with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress to identify how funds can best be used effectively on the ground, he said.
