Ten More RCMP Officers to Serve Their Communities as a Result of Increased Provincial Funding: Minister Swan

The Manitoba government is funding 10 new RCMP positions as part of the province’s ongoing commitment to increase resources for law enforcement, support community safety and help reduce crime, Justice Minister Andrew Swan announced today.

“The number of officers continues to grow, providing a strong presence to prevent criminal activity before it happens and deterrence to provide peace of mind to residents,” said Minister Swan.  “RCMP officers are an important part of our communities and we will continue to make strategic investments to support their work and increase their presence across the province.”

The province’s total annual investment in the RCMP is now more than $126 million including 798 positions.  The RCMP will choose the new officers’ assignments and locations.

“This is a significant investment in the future of Manitoba’s provincial police service,” said Assistant Commissioner Kevin Brosseau, Commanding Officer, RCMP “D” Division.  “We appreciate the Manitoba government’s continued commitment to the safety and security of Manitobans and the employees who serve them.”

These investments are part of a broader strategy to support comprehensive policing services in Manitoba communities signed by Minister Swan and the RCMP in 2013.

Since 2010, the province has increased its investment in the RCMP by more than $26 million and added 40 officers, the minister added.
