Arborg Collegiate Receives More Than $420,000 for New Science Lab to Help Students Get Ahead: Premier Selinger

ARBORG—Students in Arborg will soon benefit from a new state-of-the-art multi-purpose science classroom as a result of an investment of more than $420,000 by the province, Premier Greg Selinger announced here today.

“We want our students to learn on the best equipment available to prepare them for careers right here at home,” said Premier Selinger.  “This is an investment in the students of Arborg and their futures.”

Funding was provided to the Evergreen School Division to renovate an existing chemistry lab into a multi-purpose science classroom, which will include a chemical storage and preparation area.  This project is part of the province’s $25-million science lab renewal program that will benefit thousands of students throughout Manitoba by providing them with modern laboratory spaces and state-of-the-art equipment, the premier noted.  New equipment and classroom space support the implementation of Manitoba’s updated high school science curriculum.

“This provincial investment in a new multi-purpose science lab at Arborg Collegiate will allow enhanced opportunities to engage in relevant, experiential learning opportunities in an up-to-date, well-designed and safe space,” said Roza Gray, superintendent.  “The Evergreen School Division appreciates this continued investment in student learning.”

The Action Plan for Science Education in Manitoba includes funding for science classroom renewal, teacher training and new strategic partnerships to promote science programming.  The plan ensures high school students have access to the best labs and equipment, and are taught according to a continually updated science curriculum, the premier said.

“Investments that enable school divisions to modernize classroom facilities such as this help to enrich learning environments and engage students on a higher level,” said Premier Selinger.
