Province Announces New Appointments to Université De Saint-Boniface Board of Governors

The Manitoba government has appointed two new members to the Université de Saint-Boniface board of governors, Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart announced today.

“I’m pleased to announce the appointment of these two exemplary individuals who have shown commendable dedication to their communities over the years,” said Wishart.  “They will be welcome additions to the Université de Saint-Boniface Board of Governors.”

Diane Dubé has been appointed as a member for a term of office expiring June 30, 2019, while Maryse Gagné has been appointed as a student member for a term of office expiring June 30.

Dubé is an economic development professional serving rural francophone Manitoba communities and a former municipal councillor and school trustee in the St. Georges area.  She is actively involved in the community, serving as the director-curator of the St-Georges Museum, secretary of the St-Georges Historical Society and editor-in-chief of the Winnipeg River Advocate.

Gagné is a bachelor of science student with an interest in the arts and outdoors.  Her work experience includes serving as a historical interpreter with Festival du Voyageur and a Riding Mountain National Park camp councillor, training other young adults to be camp leaders in their communities.  Gagné is also a former member of the Université de Saint-Boniface’s theatre group known as les Chiens de Soleil.

The board of governors of the Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) consists of 15 members.  In accordance with The Université de Saint-Boniface Act, five of the members are appointed by the lieutenant-governor in council, one of which must be a student.  The board is responsible for appointing staff, setting fees, exercising disciplinary jurisdiction over students, and determining the administrative and academic organization of the university.  Appointments are for up to three years, except for students who are appointed to a one-year term.
