Government Invests $5.1 Million in New Medical Equipment

Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface General Hospital, Gimli Community Health Centre to Benefit from Purchase: Goertzen

The Manitoba government has approved $5.1 million in funding to purchase specialized medical equipment for Manitoba health-care facilities, Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced today.

“Manitobans rely on medical equipment that can diagnose illnesses while being reliable, safe and efficient for both practitioners and patients to use,” said Goertzen.  “This funding will allow a number of health-care facilities to replace aging equipment, ensuring quality medical care for the patients who use it.”

The purchase and installation of these new items will help with diagnosis and treatment wait times while mitigating increased staffing costs from decreased access to the specialized equipment, the minister added.

The items include:

  • a CT scanner at Health Sciences Centre;
  • a cardiac catheterization medical system and specialized laboratory analysis equipment at St. Boniface General Hospital; and
  • an x-ray machine at Gimli Community Health Centre.

All projects will be purchased following completion of the normal tendering process, said Goertzen.
