Latest Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Award Winners Announced: Squires



The recipients of the 2017 Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Awards were announced by Sustainable Development Minister Rochelle Squires.
 
“We continue to be encouraged and amazed by the individuals, organizations and communities making a difference in our world,” Squires said.  “I’d like to congratulate these award winners for their efforts and their dedication to their communities.”

The award winners demonstrate that private and public-sector organizations recognize and embrace their responsibility to promote sustainability in Manitoba.  The 2017 Champion for Sustainability is ft3 Architecture Landscape Interior Design.  The Winnipeg-based firm has served Manitobans for over 40 years and has helped design many recognizable Winnipeg infrastructure projects, including the Grace Hospital’s new state-of-the-art emergency department.  In its designs, ft3 is committed to environmental responsibility and makes sustainable development a priority.
 
Other award winners include:

  • Green Action Centre – outstanding achievement in sustainability;
  • Association of Manitoba Community Pastures – sustainability in water and natural area stewardship with honourable mention to Manitoba Beef Producers, Species at Risk Partnership on Agricultural Lands Initiative;
  • Happy Thought School – education for sustainability with honourable mention to Wayoata School Greening Project;
  • Riverdale Place Workshop Inc. – sustainability in pollution prevention;
  • City of Dauphin – sustainable community;
  • Prairie Architects Inc. and Seven Oaks School Division – innovation for sustainability; and
  • Macintosh Balacano – honourable mention, champion for sustainability.

The Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Awards honour people, projects and ideas that successfully turn the province’s principles and guidelines of sustainable development into concrete and lasting achievements.
