Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park Campground Expansion Underway
– – –Work on Infrastructure Begins At Accessible Family-oriented Campground: Blaikie
The expansion of Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park is underway, starting with the development of 120 accessible and fully serviced campsites in the new $5-million family campground at the south end of the park, Conservation Minister Bill Blaikie said today.
“We are providing Manitobans with a greater opportunity to experience the beauty of Lake Winnipeg and its sandy beaches where they can enjoy water sports and camp in fully serviced sites close to the amenities of the Town of Winnipeg Beach,” said Blaikie. “This campground will feature accessible sites for people with disabilities plus leading technologies in energy efficiency and environmental management.”
While construction is underway, motorists are advised to drive with caution and watch for construction workers and vehicles. The first phase of construction is the installation of underground services to provide water, sewer and electrical connections to campsites.
The park development includes three modern washroom/shower buildings, a campground office and an expanded boardwalk. Future phases of development will include a children’s play area and a multi-purpose pavilion on the site of the former Water Tower Inn.
Construction will continue into the spring of 2011. The campground will be open to the public in mid‑summer 2011.
