Manitoba Conservation Partially Lifts Fire Ban
Recent precipitation has eased the fire threat in the northwest region of the province and has allowed the restoration of burning permits issued by Manitoba Conservation in that area.
At this time, all other cancellations of burning permits issued by Manitoba Conservation remain in place for the western, eastern and central regions of the province. No new permits will be issued in those regions until current weather conditions change to allow safe burning conditions. Winds can push flames at a rapid pace, igniting large areas of land and spreading to forests.
Specific information regarding burning permit areas is available through local Manitoba Conservation offices. Burning permit areas under the Fires Protection Act refer to specific forest areas the Manitoba government protects. Manitoba Conservation requires a permit for any burning, including crop residue, within the burning permit areas between April 1 and Nov. 15 of each year. Permits for burning crop residue are conditional on daily authorizations for that municipality and subject to the hours set in that authorization.
Open fires are prohibited from April 1 to Nov. 15 annually, except under a burning permit or in enclosed approved fire pits.
