Flood Advisory Ended for Duck and Porcupine Mountain Area

The Hydrologic Forecast Centre of Manitoba Water Stewardship has ended a flood advisory for the east slopes of the Duck and Porcupine mountains in western Manitoba.

Smaller streams in the area such as the Garland and Duck rivers have crested.  Larger streams such as the Swan, Woody and Shell rivers are still rising but will remain within their banks.  Most streams flowing off the north and east slopes of Riding Mountain have also crested.

Overtopping of roads was avoided by prompt municipal actions to clear debris jams at bridges and culverts.  No buildings were affected.

Overland flooding of lowland areas of the Duck and Porcupine mountains caused by local heavy rains will gradually diminish this week as water drains off fields.  This process will be slowed by additional rainfall expected this Tuesday.  However, Tuesday’s rain is unlikely to exceed 25 mm and should not cause significant rises on streams in the area.
