Manitoba Conservation Reports Good Progress on Forest Firefighting in the North

– – –
All Travel Restrictions Being Lifted

Manitoba Conservation advises that gains continue to be made fighting forest fires in the north as rain has helped reduce the hazard. All travel restrictions are now being lifted. A return of hot, dry weather may require future travel or fire restrictions.

There were three new fires yesterday, all caused by lightning, however, none are causing any problems today. Rain showers occurred over most of the north yesterday with some scattered showers forecast for today.

Good progress continues to be made on the fire near Cranberry Portage.  Ground crews will work to extinguish hot spot areas and some firefighting resources will stand down as assignments and objectives are completed.

There are 212 firefighters and support staff, 12 helicopters, two water bombers and other heavy equipment continuing to fight this fire.

The latest information on forest fires, travel restrictions and the status of provincial campgrounds is available at www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/fire or local Manitoba Conservation offices.
