PREMIER TO GIVE KEYNOTE SPEECH AT CANADA-U.S. ENERGY FORUM

Premier Gary Doer will give the keynote speech to the 2009 Energy and Climate Forum of the Canadian American Business Council in Washington, D.C., tomorrow.

The premier will focus on issues such as the growing need for renewable energy, the business opportunities associated with alternative power development and new green technology, and the need for Canada and the United States to work together on issues related to energy security.

“Meeting our energy needs and dealing with climate change are two of our greatest challenges,” Doer said.  “Manitoba has an important role to play in providing clean hydroelectric power that should be treated as a renewable energy source in U.S. law.”

The premier noted the Obama administration’s energy secretary recently made encouraging remarks about the renewable benefits of hydroelectricity.
