Province Supports Research With More Than $1.45 Million In Grants: Rondeau
Research into health sciences, the environment and new technologies will receive more than $1.45 million in provincial support, Science, Technology, Energy and Mines Minister Jim Rondeau announced today.
“Research and innovation in the 21st century will be a major player in global competitiveness and provide good jobs and better lives for Manitobans,” said Rondeau. “We believe the funding provided today will stimulate research in the province.”
“This funding provides important infrastructure to allow the university’s research laboratories to be both state of the art and world class,” said Dr. Digvir Jayas, vice-president (research) at the University of Manitoba. “The research undertaken contributes to many aspects of society – from health to the environment to indigenous governance – and these efforts serve to enhance all of our lives in many ways.”
The funding is provided through the Manitoba Research and Innovation Fund. The fund was created to help increase the capacity of the province’s universities, colleges, hospitals and other institutions to carry out important, world-class research and development. Since 2003, it has provided over
$85 million in research and innovation support for health and agriculture, technology and aerospace, cultural and new media industries, and alternative energy developments.

“Manitoba is committed to supporting research in the province’s health sciences and innovation and technology fields,” said Rondeau. “We wish all of those who are receiving grants much success with their projects and look forward to hearing about their progress.”
