Minister Congratulates Winnipeg School Board on Official Opening of Robertson School Additions and Renovations

Education Minister Nancy Allan has congratulated the Winnipeg School Division on the official opening of an addition and renovation project at Robertson School which will take place tonight.

“The new gym, library, computer lab, facility for autistic children and the renovated space creates a state-of-the-art building that will enhance the learning environment for students and teachers, and reinforce community involvement in education,” Allan said.  “I offer my sincere congratulations to the Winnipeg School Division board of trustees and administration for their leadership in bringing this project to completion.”

Special features at Robertson School include the autism facility and a solar wall in the new gym.  This project reflects the Manitoba government’s commitment to provide inclusive special education and to construct schools that are as physically accessible as possible according to universal design guidelines, said Allan.

“The addition and renovations will certainly help enhance the opportunities for learning and for increased physical activity for Robertson students,” said Jackie Sneesby, board chair of the Winnipeg School Division.

The total cost of the capital project, including professional fees and furnishings, was approximately $4.8 million. The new portion of the building added 1,140 square metres (12,270 square feet) to the school, while the 500‑square-metre (5,400-square-foot) renovation is providing a new multi-purpose room, kitchen, grooming room and administrative office space.

The Province of Manitoba has invested more than $568 million in capital funding for the public school system in the past 10 years, an increase of $303 million dollars over the previous decade, said the minister.
