Flood Bulletin #69

• A new forecast from Saskatchewan has somewhat lowered the water levels expected on the Saskatchewan River in The Pas.  Dikes will still need to be raised on Ralls Island, but not as high as the four additional feet anticipated yesterday.  Water levels are expected to reach 855.5 to 857 feet, depending on the weather.  Preparations to reinforce existing dikes and build permanent dikes are underway.
• The wind warning for the Lake Manitoba area has been lifted.  A strong wind warning is in effect for Lake Winnipeg’s North Basin.  Winds at Dauphin Lake are forecast to be northwest 20 km/h today, then veer southwest tomorrow.
• Peak lake level forecasts have increased as a result of the heavy rains from the recent storm.  Lake Manitoba is forecast to peak at 816.3 to 816.5 ft. around July 5, depending on weather.  Lake St. Martin is expected to be 805.3 to 805.6 ft. around July 25.  On Lake Pineimuta, the peak is expected to be between 808.5 and 808.8 ft. 

Souris River

• In Melita, with average weather conditions, water levels are forecast to reach 1,411.2 ft. and, under unfavourable weather conditions, levels could reach 1,412.0 ft. between June 16 and 22.  Levels have increased 0.06 ft. since yesterday.
• In Souris, with average weather conditions, water levels are forecast to reach 1,357.7 ft. and, under unfavourable weather conditions, levels could reach 1,359.2 ft. between June 23 and 28.  Levels increased 0.17 ft. since yesterday.
• In Wawanesa, with average weather conditions, water levels could reach 1,156.3 ft and, under unfavourable conditions, levels are forecast to reach 1,158.2 ft between June 24 and 29.  The upper range of this forecast is above the crest reached on April 26.  There was no change in river levels today.
• Residents along the Souris River are advised to keep flood-protection systems in place.

Other areas

• In the Ochre River/Crescent Beach area near Dauphin, mandatory evacuation notices were issued to approximately 45 residences, eight of which are permanent homes.
• Inflow upstream of Portage la Prairie is 45,220 cubic feet per second (cfs).  Flows in the Portage Diversion channel are 27,240 cfs.  Flows on the Assiniboine River at the Portage Reservoir control gates are 17,980 cfs.
