  • Strong south winds will build this evening and overnight on Lake Manitoba and south Lake Winnipeg.
  • The weather forecast calls for rain across a large section of southern Manitoba with the potential for heavy localized rains over the next few days.
  • The storm and its potential impact are being assessed on an ongoing basis.  Decisions about additional flood-protection efforts continue to be assessed.
  • As a result of the forecast storm, flows into the Portage Reservoir are forecast to reach between 50,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) and 52,000 cfs.
  • To manage the range of flows, the Portage Diversion is expected to run over its design capacity up to 34,000 cfs.

Other Areas

  • In the town of Souris, water has risen against a dirt and sandbag dike.  Additional sandbagging is underway to reinforce existing dikes.
  • Work will continue today to shore up the Wawanesa dam using two helicopters to place heavy rock around the structure.
  • Construction and reinforcement of the Ralls Island dike near The Pas is progressing.  Flows are expected to increase along the Saskatchewan River, with the crest forecast to occur in the latter part of June.
