Gale Force Wind Alert Issued for Lake Winnipeg
- Environment Canada has upgraded wind warnings for Lake Winnipeg.
- A gale force wind warning is predicted for Sunday for the North and South basins of Lake Winnipeg with winds from the northwest at 74 km/h.
- Manitoba Water Stewardship advises this wind speed and direction will result in wind setup of approximately four to six feet in the North and South basins of Lake Winnipeg in addition to wave action.
- Environment Canada’s forecast indicates the increased wind setup will begin today and is forecast to continue tomorrow, diminishing slightly in the evening with high winds of about 56 km/h into Monday.
- The high wind warning continues for southern Lake Manitoba, with winds from the northwest ranging from 37 to 55 km/h.
