Flood-fighting Accident Reported in Souris

The Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization is reporting that an accident has occurred at a flood-fighting site in Souris.  Initial reports suggest a hydraulic line on a truck unloading sandbags broke and sprayed a group of people who were nearby.   Five military personnel and one civilian volunteer have been transported to hospital.

The STARS helicopter and paramedics responded to provide care for the individuals who have been injured.  No further details are available at this time.  The incident will be fully investigated.

“Flood fighters on the front lines are working in risky and challenging situations to save the homes and communities of Manitobans.  It is important work that is valued,” said Premier Greg Selinger.  “The thoughts of Manitobans and the provincial government are with those who are injured and we wish them all a speedy and full recovery.”
