Wind Alerts for Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipegosis



  • Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba.
  • Gale warnings are in effect for Lake Manitoba and the North Basin of Lake Winnipeg with winds from the north at 65 to 85 km/h.
  • Strong wind warnings are in effect for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and Lake Winnipegosis with winds from the north at 37 to 60 km/h.
  • Manitoba Water Stewardship advises this wind speed and direction will result in a wind setup of greater than three feet and wave action on the south basin of both Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba.  Winds during the day will start the wind setup, which will increase in the evening as stronger winds develop. 
  • The Environment Canada forecast shows these winds building so setup may start to occur overnight tonight and is forecast to continue through tomorrow until winds decrease in the evening.
  • Property owners should take precautions.
