Financial Awards Help Deserving Students Build Better Future for Themselves: Irvin-Ross

Nine post-secondary students were presented with BUILDINGFoundations Bursaries today by Housing and Community Development Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross at an event at the Legislative Building.  The $1,000 bursaries are given to post-secondary students living in subsidized rental housing who have demonstrated high academic achievement as well as a commitment to community volunteer work.

“These students are not only taking huge strides in their own lives, they are making positive changes in their communities,” said Irvin-Ross.  “They are being recognized for outstanding academic and community achievement and we honour them with these bursaries.”

Manitoba Housing has awarded nine bursaries each year for the past five years.  Since 2007, bursaries have been awarded to 45 post-secondary students for a total of $45,000 to assist them in achieving their dreams of a better life for themselves and their families, the minister said.
