Premier and Other Leaders Motivate Manitoba Youth at We Day Manitoba
Premier Greg Selinger and Children and Youth Opportunities Minister Kevin Chief will be joined today by former Soviet president and Nobel Peace prize laureate Mikhail Gorbachev and Justice Murray Sinclair, chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, at the second We Day Manitoba.
“To the thousan of young people and educators taking part in Manitoba’s We Day, I say thank you,” said Selinger. “Your commitment to your community and to your province will help build an even better Manitoba for everyone.”
The event, held at the MTS Centre, is organized by the international children’s charity and educational partner, Free the Children, and will feature world-renowned speakers and performers before an anticipated audience of 18,000 from over 380 schools. Young people at the event have earned their way into the event by committing to take action on a local or global issue.
“The Manitoba government is committed to helping more young people get involved in their communities, make a contribution and lay the foundation for good jobs and a good quality of life after school,” Chief said. “We Day is helping give young people ideas and examples of the real difference that other young people, just like them are making.”
We Day Manitoba is funded in part by the Government of Manitoba.
