New Service For Business Announced For Manitoba Municipalities, Towns And Cities

Small businesses in 11 Manitoba municipalities, towns and cities will benefit from BizPaL, an online tool that saves businesses time and money, Competitiveness, Training and Trade Minister Jim Rondeau announced today.

BizPaL will soon be available to the nine member communities of the Parkland Agricultural Resource Co-operative (PARC) which consists of the towns of Roblin, Gilbert Plains and Grandview, the Village of Ethelbert and the rural municipalities of Dauphin, Gilbert Plains, Grandview, Ethelbert, and Hillsburg. The two cities announcing their participation in BizPaL are Dauphin and Portage la Prairie.

“BizPaL is a user-friendly, time-saving tool that helps cut red tape dramatically and reflects government’s commitment to provide Manitoba’s business community with single-window service delivery,” said Rondeau. “This partnership with the Parkland Agricultural Co-operative, the cities of Dauphin and Portage la Prairie and Industry Canada demonstrates how successful we can be when we all work together.”

“BizPaL is going to be a significant tool for small business development in the Parkland region,” said Marnie Kostur, executive administrator for PARC. “BizPaL will make doing business faster and will be user friendly for prospective applicants.”

“We are looking forward to introducing BizPaL as part of our economic development portfolio and using this significant tool to increase our business development efforts,” said Ken Brennan, mayor of Portage la Prairie. “As it has done in other communities, BizPaL will make doing business in Portage la Prairie easier.”

“BizPaL is a great opportunity for the City of Dauphin,” said Jana Schott, manager of the Dauphin Economic Development Office.  “We are pleased to be working with BizPaL in making it easier and more efficient for entrepreneurs to find accurate information about starting or expanding a business in Dauphin.”

BizPaL provides entrepreneurs with simplified access to the permit and licensing information they need to establish and run their businesses. This unique partnership among federal, provincial, territorial, regional and local governments is designed to cut through the paperwork burden and red tape that small business owners and industry developers encounter.

Presently, five local governments participate in BizPaL.  They include Brandon, Morden, the RM of Thompson, Winkler and the RM of Stanley.  Rondeau noted the province is looking forward to expanding BizPaL to other areas of Manitoba over the next year.
