Provincewide Campsite Reservations Open Monday
The Manitoba Parks Reservation Service will open on Monday, April 7 to help campers book their summer vacations at campsites all across the province.
Starting at 7 a.m., campsites can be reserved online at http://prs.gov.mb.caor by calling 204‑948‑3333 (in Winnipeg) or 1‑888-482-2267 (toll‑free).
Walk-in reservations and in-person payment arrangements can be made at 200 Saulteaux Cres. in Winnipeg weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Most campgrounds are scheduled to open May 9 while northern campgrounds and, weather permitting, those along the lakes will open May 16. Watchorn campground, devastated by flooding in 2011, is scheduled to reopen on June 20. In Spruce Woods, Kiche Manitou campground will open May 9 while the flood-damaged lower campground is scheduled to reopen June 27 with a number of upgrades including new flood-proof washroom facilities, road improvements and landscaping.
All around the province, visitors will enjoy improvements such as new washroom facilities in some campgrounds and the addition of electricity to 19 sites at Tulabi Falls. Information on specific campground opening dates is available at: www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/parks/camping/dates/index.html.
Reservations for cabins, group-use sites, yurts and Birds Hill Provincial Park campsites opened March 24 and more than 5,600 reservations were made on opening day. Birds Hill has the busiest provincial campground and campsite reservations were staggered when the reservation lines first opened this year to address the high demand on opening day.
In addition to the usual retail outlets, annual park entry permits can also be bought online through Canada Map Sales at www.canadamapsales.com.
