Parks Reservation System Reports Busy Morning as Campground Bookings Open Provincewide
Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship reports thousands of reservations have been made in the first few hours since the Manitoba Parks Reservation Service website opened for provincewide reservations at 7 a.m. today.
As of 10 a.m., more than 11,300 reservations had been accepted. Reservations for Birds Hill campground as well as cabins, yurts and group-use sites opened March 24, while reservations opened for all other provincial campgrounds this morning.
Despite the high volume of calls and Internet requests, no major incidents or problems have been reported. The reservation system is designed to track people’s access to the website and ensure they have the chance to make reservations in the order in which they logged in.
Most campgrounds are scheduled to open May 9, while northern campgrounds and, weather permitting, those along the lakes will open May 16. Information on specific campground opening dates is available at www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/parks/camping/dates/index.html.
The May long weekend will be liquor free in all provincial parks and some liquor-free campsites will be available all season in designated spots at Grand Beach and Birds Hill provincial parks. Those sites are:
- bays six, nine and 10 at Grand Beach Provincial Park; and
- Oriole and Grackle bays at Birds Hill Provincial Park.
Manitoba parks saw 5.4 million visitors in 2013. Over 66,000 camping reservations were made and 81 per cent of those were made online.
