Province Moves Forward with Greater Health Sector Transparency

– – –
Regional Health Authorities, Personal Care Homes, Health Corporations Now Required to Post Executive Expense Reports Online: Minister Selby

Expense reports for the most senior executive of all regional health authorities and health corporations, such as hospitals and personal care homes not operated by a regional health authority, are being posted online, increasing transparency and accountability, Health Minister Erin Selby said today.

“Posting expense reports online improves system transparency and allows the public to see where dollars are being spent,” said Minister Selby.  “This supports public accountability and supports our work to improve health care by hiring more nurses, doctors and other health-care providers, along with building our health-care infrastructure like ACCESS centres and QuickCare clinics, to provide more options for patients and their families.”

Under the Regional Health Authorities Act, all regions and personal care homes are required to report the expenses of the chief executive officer or the senior officer of each corporation in their health region by June 30 each year.  The reports from personal care homes and health corporations not operated by a regional health authority will be posted on the website of the region where the facility is located.

In addition, Diagnostic Services Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba and the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba will also be posting reports.  Information to be posted includes both in-province and out-of-province expenses for:

  • transportation;
  • accommodation, food and beverages;
  • hospitality; and
  • cellphones and other personal electronic communications devices.

Minister Selby said reports will be available by June 30 on each organization’s website.
