Options for All-weather Road Between York Landing and Ilford to be Discussed at Open House Information Sessions



Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation advises the government is currently studying routes for an all-season road between York Landing and Ilford including options to connect these communities to PR 280.

Three open house sessions are scheduled to provide information about the study and invite public comment.  The open houses will be held at the following locations from 1 to 4 p.m. on:

  • Tuesday, April 28 – Ilford, Laliberty Memorial Centre;
  • Wednesday, April 29 – York Landing, George Saunders Memorial School; and
  • Thursday, April 30 – Tataskweyak (Split Lake) Band Hall.

Participants are invited to share views on the social, cultural, environmental, economic and engineering factors to be considered when planning the location of roads in this area, such as:

  • selecting the most direct, economical and environmentally acceptable route;
  • locating appropriate water crossings such as bridges and ferries;
  • protecting the natural environment;
  • protecting historical sites, artifacts, archaeological resources, local cultural and traditional land uses and treaty land entitlements, and
  • enhancing social and economic opportunities from more reliable access to employment, education, recreation, shopping and health facilities.
