Province Issues Highway System Construction Bulletin

Week of May 18 to 22

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation reports the province will invest $25 million on three highway improvement projects that started this week, as part of the province’s $5.5-billion, five-year core infrastructure plan.

This week’s projects include:

  • Northern Region
    • Continuing grading on 10 kilometres of PR 373 from Jenpeg to Minago River.  This $6-million project is being undertaken by Smook Contractors Ltd. and is expected to be completed by the end of August 2015, weather permitting.  There will be a detour for this work.
    • Continuing grading including base and surfacing of PTH 6 (various locations) from Sasagiu Rapids to 25 km north.  This $6.5-million project is being undertaken by Smook Contractors Ltd. and is expected to be completed by July 2015, weather permitting.
    • Continuing grading including base on 22 km of PR 280 from 105 km east of PR 391 to 127 km east of PR 391.  This $12.5-million project is being undertaken by Moncrief Construction Ltd. and is being cost-shared with Manitoba Hydro.  The multi-year project is expected to be completed by the end of fall 2015, weather permitting.  There will be a detour for this work.

The annual road repair season is underway and motorists are reminded to slow down and drive safely when they see constructions signs and flaggers at the roadside.  Drivers are required to reduce speeds to specific limits in construction zones under the Highway Traffic Act.
