Travel Manitoba Partners with Brandon's Riverbank Discovery Centre to Provide Service to Visitors: Premier Selinger

This summer, Manitoba has made arrangements to partner with Brandon’s Riverbank Discovery Centre to provide visitor information and tourism services for western Manitoba, Premier Greg Selinger announced today.

“Tourism is a vital part of our economy and while we know that more and more travellers are looking for information ahead of time and online, we don’t want to forget about those who like to explore on their own,” Premier Selinger said.  “We want to ensure travellers can get updates, maps or information about destinations in Westman, from people in Westman.”

Travel Manitoba has partnered with the Riverbank Discovery Centre, which is home to Brandon Tourism, Brandon Riverbank Inc., Brandon First and Ducks Unlimited Canada’s provincial field offices.  Located in the heart of the Assiniboine River corridor, the centre is open year-round and will now provide information on the entire province, as well as the City of Brandon, the region, Canada and the United States, the premier said.  The centre also offers souvenirs, recreational vehicle day parking and dump site, picnic areas and interpretive trails.

“We’re pleased to be able to partner with Travel Manitoba to expand the breadth of information and services provided to visitors,” said Lois MacDonald, manager, riverbank development and tourism services, Brandon Tourism.  “The centre provides year-round service and is a natural stopping point for people travelling along the Trans-Canada Highway.”

Travel Manitoba works with partners to deliver visitor information services at other points of entry throughout the province including working with the Turtle Mountain Economic Development Board to operate the Visitor Information Centre in Boissevain on PTH 10 and partnering with the Russell and District Chamber of Commerce to operate the centre at the Manitoba/Saskatchewan boundary at the junction of PTH 16 and 83.

“This partnership approach allows us to provide better service to visitors, while at the same time, results in operating efficiencies that support increased investments in marketing the province,” said Colin Ferguson, president and CEO, Travel Manitoba.

The premier said Manitoba has also committed funding to support the re-opening of the seasonal visitor information centre on the Trans-Canada Highway in Kirkella near the Saskatchewan border.  The information centre will officially open for the tourist season later this summer, but restroom facilities are available now, he noted.
