Rural Municipality of Rhineland to Improve Local Roads

Project Made Possible Thanks to the Building Canada Fund - Communities Component

GRETNA—The Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State for Social Development, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Ron Kostyshyn, Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Development, on behalf of the Honourable Drew Caldwell, Minister of Municipal Government, were joined today by Don Wiebe, Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Rhineland, to officially announce improvements to local roads in the RM of Rhineland.

“Our Government recognizes the importance of investing in infrastructure projects that strengthen communities and contribute to improving the quality of life for residents,” said Minister Bergen. “The improvements announced today will help to improve road safety and help strengthen the region’s economic development and growth.”

“The RM of Rhineland is home to some of the most productive agricultural land in the province and it is a huge economic driver in the area,” said Minister Kostyshyn. “The rehabilitation of these roads will greatly increase local farmer’s ability to move grain during local road restrictions.”

Funding for the project will allow the RM of Rhineland to rehabilitate nearly 50 kilometres of local roads.  These improved roads will be safer and allow for increased flow of grain transported by heavy trucks and farm equipment to elevators in the region.

“The Municipality of Rhineland is pleased to receive funding from the Building Canada Fund,” said Wiebe. “The co-operative involvement of three levels of government creates the opportunity to build a vital road network so that a diversity of agricultural products are efficiently transported throughout the region. This is essential in building a vibrant rural economy.”

Under the Building Canada Fund – Communities Component the Government of Canada, Province of Manitoba, and the Rural Municipality of Rhineland have each committed $400,000 toward the project.
