“Our Government recognizes the importance of investing in regional infrastructure projects that contribute to economic growth and prosperity,” said Minister Bergen. “The formation of a new water system ensures accessibility to safe potable water and illustrates positive investments in our communities."

“The Province of Manitoba is continuing to focus on providing clean drinking water to all communities in Manitoba,” said Minister Kostyshyn. “It’s these types of important projects that are demonstrating our commitment to supporting infrastructure, and economic growth in our rural areas.”

Funding for the project will be used for the first two phases of upgrades to the regional water supply system, which is owned and operated by the South Central District Water Coop Inc.; serving the Towns of Manitou and Pilot Mound with the Municipalities of Pembina and Louise.. The project’s first phase includes an upgrade to the Pilot Mound Water Treatment Plant to meet the Drinking Water Safety Act, and Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality requirements. In the project’s second phase, 30 kilometres of pipeline will be constructed to convey treated water from the Pilot Mound Water Treatment Plant to the Manitou Water Treatment Plant.

“The South Central District Water Coop Inc. is pleased with the partnership of both the Federal and Provincial Governments with funding provided through the Building Canada Fund Communities Component,” said Shiskoski. “The much needed improvement to the Infrastructure will assure the safe and sustainable delivery of water to both communities within the region.”

Under the Building Canada Fund – Communities Component the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba have each committed $1,432,214 toward the project.
