Manitoba Government Launches New Online Training Program for Security Guards

Manitoba Justice advises it has launched a new online version of its security guard training program to help more people access the skills and training needed to become a licensed security guard.

The private security industry helps support law enforcement and public safety, and demand for individuals with these skills is growing.  Online programs help make the necessary training accessible to more Manitobans.

The Manitoba Security Guard Training Program is the required standard for individuals working as security guards and addresses patrolling, handling bomb threats, responding to fires, writing reports, standards of professionalism and conduct, and the proper use of a citizen’s powers of arrest.

The new online program will be available through the Private Security Training Network, an initiative of the Canadian Police Knowledge Network.  This not-for-profit corporation provides online training resources for police and other law enforcement personnel.

The Manitoba Security Guard Training Program is also currently offered by a number of other approved trainers.  To learn more about the Manitoba Security Guard Training Program and approved trainers, visit www.gov.mb.ca/justice/safe/private.
