Families to Enjoy New Winnipeg Spray Pad
Families in south Winnipeg are enjoying a new spray pad that is now officially open, Municipal Government Minister Drew Caldwell and Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.
“This investment in a new spray pad at the South Winnipeg Community Centre’s Waverley site creates a place for families to get outside and enjoy active living,” said Minister Caldwell. “The province and the city have both made an important contribution that will promote physical activity.”
Construction work on the spray pad began in 2014.
The Manitoba government committed $1.5 million for the construction of three spray pads across Winnipeg including locations at Gateway Community Centre, Lindsey Wilson Park in Island Lakes and the Waverley Heights Community Centre. Funding for these projects is provided through the Building Manitoba Fund.
“The South Winnipeg Community Centre is a wonderful place for families to gather and take part in active living,” said Janice Lukes, city councillor, South Winnipeg - St. Norbert, attending the event on behalf of the mayor. “This spray pad is another resource that families in the community can use to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.”
The city is funding the operating costs of each new spray pad.
“The new spray pad has been a great addition to South Winnipeg. It provides us with another recreation asset to meet the needs of a growing community,” said Chuck Davidson, president, South Winnipeg Community Centre. “This would not have happened without the support of both the Government of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg.”
