Province Extends Funding, Red Tape Cuts for Non-Profits
– – –Strategy Helps Non-profits Expand Services: Minister Irvin-Ross
The Manitoba government is expanding its successful Non-profit Organization (NPO) Strategy, allowing more organizations to focus on delivering important services to the communities they assist, Family Services Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross, announced today.
“Non-profit organizations perform valuable services for thousands of Manitobans in all walks of life including agricultural producers, small businesses, social services, child-care centres and the arts community,” Minister Irvin-Ross said. “By making it easier for them to access stable funding and cut through red tape, these organizations can focus on providing important services to meet the needs of helping groups and individuals in Manitoba.”
The minister noted there are two new components to the successful NPO Strategy:
- a commitment to provide multi-year, multi-departmental funding agreements to 10 more organizations that qualified after a public application process;
- a plan to expand the strategy to include organizations that receive funding from just one provincial government department and applications will be available soon at www.manitoba.ca/npo.
“The strategy has helped the North End Women’s Centre to plan and provide programming beyond a year-to-year basis,” said Cynthia Drebot, executive director, North End Women’s Centre. “It helps in retaining staff and volunteers to facilitate programs that are going to be there when women and children need them. Without this ongoing and consistent support, programming can become fragmented and it can be very difficult to build momentum and make necessary and essential program changes to meet community needs.”
