New Morden Business Gateway to Support Local Entrepreneurs, Small Businesses: Minister Chief

MORDEN—A new business centre in Morden will provide valuable services to help local entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses, Jobs and the Economy Minister Kevin Chief announced here today.

“Entrepreneurs can see opportunities for their hometowns where others might only see hardship,” said Minister Chief.  “Support from groups like the Morden Business Gateway help them succeed in one of Canada’s fastest growing economies.”

The new Morden Business Gateway will help rural business owners and entrepreneurs by providing them with tools to navigate different stages of business development.  The centre will make business information and services faster to find, easier to understand and simpler to use – whether accessed online, by phone or in person, the minister said. It has been developed in partnership with the Morden Community Development Corporation and Entrepreneurship Manitoba.

“This centre will help Morden’s vibrant and growing business community have better access to crucial training, services and information,” said John B. Wiens, chair, Morden Community Development Corporation.  “The Morden Business Gateway will assist business startups and entrepreneurs lift their initiatives to new levels.”

The Manitoba government will provide direct access to information, programs and services to gateway clients through Entrepreneurship Manitoba.  Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries also supported the initiative with $15,000 for boardroom improvements.

The Morden Business Gateway will offer a centralized location where individuals interested in opening a business can access information on topics such as starting a business, permits and licences, market research, financial assistance and training and managing employees.  Employees of the Morden Community Development Corporation will provide guidance and referrals to gateway clients, and offer features like video-conferencing.
