Churchill Health Centre Sees $2.5 Million in Upgrades that will Provide even Better Health-care Services for Northern Families: Minister Blady
Work is now underway on a $2.5-million project to upgrade medical device decontamination and sterilization equipment, and the ventilation system at the Churchill Health Centre, Health Minister Sharon Blady announced today.
“Investments in new equipment ensure health providers have the tools they need to provide safe care to patients,” said Minister Blady. “These investments will ensure the facility continues to meet the needs of northern Manitoba families.”
The project includes purchasing and installing new and replacement equipment including a steam autoclave, a washer and other pieces of equipment for disinfecting medical devices.
“Patients expect that the medical devices used in their care are safe,” said Milton Sussman, president and CEO, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, which is also responsible for co-ordinating and delivering health services for Churchill. “This significant investment in equipment will help ensure that we continue to meet those expectations for our patients in the north.”
Construction will include new separate spaces for clean and dirty equipment, along with replacement counters, workspaces and storage for clean and sterile supplies.
“This critical strategic investment will enable the Churchill Health Centre to build on its impressive role in providing quality health-care service delivery to the residents of Churchill and to the many communities within Nunavut,” said Mayor Michael Spence, Town of Churchill.
Work on the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, the minister said.
