Report Shows Record Number of Manitobans Working: Minister Dewar

According to Statistics Canada, Manitoba experienced strong job growth for the third consecutive month and now has the lowest unemployment rate in the country, Finance Minister Greg Dewar announced today.

“This is great news for the province because it means more jobs for Manitoba families to help them get ahead,” said Minister Dewar.  “Manitoba works when we all work together.  That is why we are working with the private sector and our education partners to ensure that young Manitobans are getting the training they need to build bright futures right here at home.”

The October 2015 labour market estimates released today show Manitoba’s unemployment rate was 5.3 per cent last month, well below the national average of seven per cent.

The province’s gain of 2,800 jobs last month means Manitoba continues to have the best job growth for total employment and private employment, for the first 10 months of 2015.

Manitoba also saw its labour force increase by 3,700 people and set a record for the province with 641,800 Manitobans now working, Minister Dewar noted.
