Throne Speech to be Delivered Nov. 16

Speech Opens Fifth Session of 40th Legislative Assembly

A 15–gun salute at 12:55 p.m. on the grounds of the Legislative Building will officially mark the start of ceremonies for the reading of the speech from the throne to be delivered by Lt.-Gov. Janice Filmon in the legislative assembly chamber.

The guns, from the 26th Field Regiment in Brandon under the under the command of Capt. Paul Haughey, will start firing when the lieutenant-governor leaves Government House.  

Upon arrival at the Legislative Building, the lieutenant-governor will be invited to inspect a 50-person guard of honour made up of members of the Royal Canadian Air Force from 17 Wing in Winnipeg, under the command of Capt. Karyne Brown.

The Royal Canadian Air Force Band from 17 Wing, under the direction of Capt. John Fullerton, will provide the viceregal salute just prior to, and just after, the lieutenant-governor’s inspection of the guard of honour.

Following the inspection of the guard of honour, Lt.-Gov. Filmon, accompanied by Premier Greg Selinger, will enter the legislative assembly chamber at approximately 1:30 p.m. to begin reading the speech from the throne.

The speech will outline the government’s priorities for the upcoming legislative session.
