Premier Greg Selinger celebrated with students and community members today at the official opening of École Taché’s 26,635-sq.-ft. expansion and new child-care centre.

“This expansion will support a quality education for students and enhance French language and culture in this school and community,” said Premier Selinger.  “In addition, the new child-care centre will ensure children, our most cherished citizens, receive the best care possible while their parents build better lives for their families in the workforce or at school.”

The expansion includes three new kindergarten rooms, four classrooms, a multi-purpose room, grooming room, resource room and a new 8,275-sq.-ft. daycare with spaces for 74 children.

“With our large renovation project complete, Ecole Taché now has new classroom that cater to its students’ need and create a home for its preschool programming,” said Bernard Lesage, board chair, Commission scolaire franco-manitobaine.  “We are very grateful for the generous contributions made by our government partners for this project, which is an important investment in the growth of our community.”

The premier noted the major expansion will help to meet the growing enrolment needs of Division scolaire franco-manitobaine and improve access and student support at the school.

The province provided a total of $5.6 million for the project.
