New Facility to Enhance Services, Care for Area Residents: Minister Blady

STE. ROSE DU LAC—The tender has been awarded for construction on a new, $3.6-million primary health-care centre in Ste. Rose du Lac that will provide even better health-care services closer to home for patients in the area, Health Minister Sharon Blady announced here today.

“Our government is focused on making strategic investments that bring even better health-care services closer to home for patients in rural Manitoba,” said Minister Blady.  “This new primary care centre will serve as a hub for health care in the Ste. Rose du Lac community and bring front-line service providers together to benefit patients.”

The new, 8,325-sq.-ft. facility will replace the existing Community Health Services building.  Space will be included for primary care services, public health care, chronic disease management education, home care and mental health services.

The new building will offer a main entry for clients with parking and drop-off areas, waiting areas with washrooms, private offices for health-care providers, secure areas for confidential work and client information storage, new work and exam areas, and separate supplies, utility, storage and housekeeping areas.

“Prairie Mountain Health continues its effort to develop an integrated and sustainable network of health-care services and programs within the region,” said Penny Gilson, chief executive officer, Prairie Mountain Health.  “With much support from the Turtle River Development Centre (TRDC) and working alongside municipal leaders, including representatives from the East Parkland Medical Group, we are very pleased to be moving ahead with the new primary health-care centre in Ste. Rose.”

The existing medical/dental clinic will remain next to the primary care centre.  Fee-for-service physicians will continue to occupy the clinic and be responsible for providing their own equipment, supplies and staffing.

The minister noted a nurse practitioner position will be created to provide primary health care services to approximately 1,000 individuals, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention.

“I’m pleased we’re moving forward on our commitment to build this new facility that will add capacity in the area, help residents find a primary care provider and receive more timely access to primary care services,” said Minister Blady.

The demolition of the old building is expected to begin later this year and the construction of the new building will follow in early 2016, the minister noted.
