Four Manitobans Honoured with Order of the Buffalo Hunt

Four Manitobans received one of the province’s highest honours, the Order of the Buffalo Hunt, today at a special ceremony, Premier Greg Selinger announced.

“Too often we fail to recognize and appreciate the contributions and life-time dedication of some individuals who have truly made Manitoba a better place for all,” Premier Selinger said.  “I am delighted the four Manitobans we recognize today are now receiving the acknowledgment, thanks and appreciation they richly deserve.”

The premier added the event recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the province in a variety of fields ranging from science, social work and the arts.

The four people honoured today are:

  • Abdi Ahmed, who has worked tirelessly to build bridges between new immigrants and both indigenous and established communities;
  • John Einarson, one of the foremost rock music historians in North America;
  • Dr. Gary Kobinger, whose team was instrumental in fighting the Ebola outbreak in Africa in 2014; and
  • Debi Spence, who has dedicated her life to the Point Douglas neighbourhood supporting families and marginalized community members

Four other Manitobans will also be presented with the Order of the Buffalo Hunt at a later date.  They are Richard Bonnycastle, Jean Doucha, Joan Mary Harland and the late Len Evans.
