Upgrades will allow Expansion, Increase Tourism: Minister Caldwell

BRANDON,,ŸThe Manitoba government is investing up to $1.2 million in waste-water infrastructure upgrades at the International Peace Garden, Municipal Government Minister Drew Caldwell, and Charlie Thomsen, board president, International Peace Garden, announced here today.

“The province recognizes the importance of the International Peace Garden as a global symbol of friendship and peace,” said Minister Caldwell.  “It is important that we invest in upgrades to key infrastructure that will continue to allow them to expand and offer programming for our youth.”

The Lagoon Upgrade project will include the addition of a new fourth cell to the International Peace Garden’s current waste-water lagoon that will address capacity issues, as well as see the replacement of aging lagoon infrastructure, which would satisfy regulatory requirements for current and future flows.

“The International Peace Garden is working to upgrade and repair much of its infrastructure over the next few years,” said Thomsen.  “Expanding our lagoon capacity makes it possible for the International Peace Garden to meet increased demands we already are experiencing.  This financial support, which is essential to our continued growth, is greatly appreciated.”

This project will allow the International Peace Garden to continue to expand its facilities and programming including two summer youth camps, the International Music Camp, as well as the Legion Athletic Camp.
