First Session of the 41st Manitoba Legislature to Open Monday with Speech from the Throne

The first session of the 41st Manitoba legislature is expected to open at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday with the reading of the speech from the throne by Lt.-Gov. Janice C. Filmon.

She will leave Government House at 1 p.m. and, upon arrival at the front stairs of the Legislative Building, will receive full military honours.

Capt. Blake Grimeau will lead members of 26th Field Artillery Regiment from Brandon and Portage la Prairie as they fire a 15-gun artillery salute.  During the artillery salute, the lieutenant-governor will inspect a 100-person Guard of Honour made up of members of 17 Wing Winnipeg led by Maj. Yann Boudreau.

The Royal Canadian Air Force Band, led by Capt. John Fullerton, will be on parade to provide the musical pageantry for the ceremony.

Following the inspection and the playing of the viceregal salute, the official party will continue up the grand staircase to the lieutenant-governor’s reception room before entering the legislative chamber and the reading of the speech from the throne, which gets underway at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The speech outlines the government’s main priorities for the upcoming legislative session.
