Federal-Provincial-Territorial Innovation Ministers Share Ideas, Reaffirm Commitment to Driving Economic Growth in Canada

Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Cliff Cullen concluded a two-day meeting with Canadian federal, provincial and territorial ministers in Ottawa, today that focused on economic development and innovation across Canada.

“These meetings are essential for collaboration and idea-sharing across the country on shared commitments to creating jobs and producing sustainable economic growth through science and innovation,” said Cullen.

Discussions at the FPT meeting included strategies on driving employment through business development among Indigenous communities and creating initiatives that strengthen innovation networks and clusters, the minister noted.

“The Manitoba government recognizes that innovation and synergies across all industries will be an essential component in facilitating long-term economic growth in our province,” Cullen said.  “In particular, northern and Indigenous economic development, and attracting a talented and diverse workforce have been identified as key priorities of Manitoba’s new government.”

Ministers agreed to establish a permanent federal-provincial-territorial ministerial table to drive innovation and economic growth, Cullen said.

The next meeting will be held in 2017 in British Columbia.
